If we could choose one month to send a friend to Rhodes, it would be October. The heat of July and August has broken, the sea is still warm from a whole summer of sunshine, and the crowds have thinned to a pleasant hum. The light turns golden, the evenings are soft, and the island feels like it has exhaled.

Rhodes is one of the sunniest islands in Greece, and October is still a summer month for most of it. What is still open in October?
Most things. Rhodes Town is a year-round city, so the Old Town, museums, restaurants and shops carry on as normal. Lindos and the main resorts stay open through the month, and the beaches still have sunbeds in most places.
What changes is the edges. Some seasonal beach bars, small tavernas and boat-trip operators wind down during the second half of October, and ferry timetables to nearby islands become less frequent.
