The best time to visit Lindos is late May to June or mid-September to October. You get warm, sunny days, a swimmable sea and summer opening hours without the heat and crowds of July and August. High summer suits sun-seekers, while from November to mid-April the village largely closes for winter.

Lindos looks beautiful in every month of the year, but the experience changes a lot with the seasons. In August the village is hot, busy and buzzing. In May and October it is warm, calm and gentle. In January it is quiet and green, with most doors closed until spring.

This guide takes you through the year month by month, with official weather data and opening hours, from a family that has run a hotel in the village since 1989.

When is the best time to visit Lindos?

Our short answer: late May to June, or mid-September to October. In these months the weather is reliably warm and sunny, the sea is warm enough to swim, sites keep long opening hours, and the lanes are noticeably calmer than in high summer.

What is Lindos like in spring?

April is green, fresh and quiet. Days are mild, around 20°C, but the sea is still cold for most swimmers. The village opens up gradually after the winter, and the Acropolis switches to summer hours on 1 April. It is lovely for walking, but plan on sightseeing rather than beach days.

May is one of our favourite months. The days are warm, the hills are still green, and by late May the sea is inviting. In 2027, Greek Easter falls on 2 May, a wonderful time to be on the island. Our guide to Rhodes in May covers the month in detail.

Is June a good time to visit Lindos?

Yes. June is real summer: highs around 28°C, more than 12 hours of sunshine a day and a sea that is pleasant from the start of the month. The official bathing season, when lifeguards cover the busy beaches, starts on 1 June. Crowds build through the month but stay well below their August peak.

Are July and August too hot and busy?

They are the hottest and busiest months, and whether that is “too” much depends on you.

On the plus side, the sea is at its warmest, around 25 to 27°C, the evenings are long and lively, and everything is open. On the other hand, average highs reach about 30°C, the midday sun is fierce, and Lindos is at its most crowded. The Acropolis of Lindos received 595,625 visitors in 2025, the third-highest figure of any archaeological site in Greece, according to ELSTAT data. In July and August you will share the Acropolis path with several thousand people a day.

During heatwaves, the Ministry of Culture can shorten opening hours at archaeological sites at short notice, so check before you climb. Our advice for July and August: swim in the morning, rest in the shade at midday, and save the village for the evening, when the day visitors have left.

Is September or October a good time to visit Lindos?

Both are excellent. September keeps the summer warmth, with highs around 28°C and the warmest sea of the year, while the crowds start to thin as the month goes on. Many people consider it the perfect month for a beach holiday.

October brings milder days, around 24°C, a sea still near 24°C, and a calm, golden atmosphere. It is ideal for walking, sightseeing and long lunches. It is also the month when the first autumn rain usually arrives. In Rhodes Old Town, the annual Medieval Festival took place on 9 to 11 October in 2026. Read our full guide to Rhodes in October.

Can you visit Lindos in winter?

You can, but it is a different place. From November to mid-April the village largely hibernates: most hotels, restaurants and shops close, and the lanes belong to the people who live here. Winter is also the rainy season. The Lindos weather station of the National Observatory of Athens averages more than 100 mm of rain in both December and January, compared with almost none in August.

The Acropolis stays open on winter hours: from 1 November to 31 March it opens daily from 08:30 to 15:10, except Tuesdays, according to the Ministry of Culture. A sunny winter day trip can be magical, with the site almost to yourself.

What is the best time of day to visit Lindos?

Early morning or evening, in any season. Most day visitors arrive by coach, car and boat from late morning and leave by late afternoon. Before 10:00 and after 17:00, the village feels completely different.

For the Acropolis, the opening hour matters. As of October 2026, the Ministry of Culture listed these hours for the Acropolis of Lindos:

  • 1 April to the end of August: daily 08:00 to 20:00.
  • September and October: closing time moves earlier in steps, to 19:30 from 1 September, 19:00 from 16 September, 18:30 from 1 October and 18:00 from 16 October.
  • 1 November to 31 March: daily 08:30 to 15:10, closed on Tuesdays.
  • Tickets: 20 euros. Entry is free on certain days, including 18 May and the last weekend of September.

How windy is Lindos?

The meltemi, a dry northerly wind, blows across the Aegean in summer and is usually strongest in July and August. On Rhodes, the west coast takes the brunt of it, which is why windsurfers head for spots such as Prasonisi and Ixia. Lindos, on the east coast, is relatively sheltered, so its bays are calm on most days, even in midsummer.

Our pick

If we had to choose one month, it would be September: warm sea, golden light and a village that is busy enough to feel alive. Close behind are late May and June for green hills and long days, and October for peace and perfect walking weather.

Whenever you come, staying in the village lets you enjoy Lindos at its best, in the early morning and after the day-trippers leave. Lindos Comfy Suites has 21 suites, a Greek breakfast every morning and the main square a quiet five minutes’ walk downhill.
